Chinese Tea Therapy

Chinese Tea Therapy refers to a system of personalised tea-based wellness prescriptions developed in accordance with TCM theory, combining the properties of tea leaves — including their nature, flavour, and meridian affinities — with their specific health benefits to address a wide range of conditions. It represents a unique framework where modern science and traditional culture converge. Professor Wei Ming has systematically organised and structured the field of Tea Therapy, championing the concept of "tea as medicine" — elevating Tea Therapy from an academic legacy into a living practice with tangible applications in product development.

Definition and Characteristics of Chinese Tea Therapy

Chinese Tea Therapy draws upon the individual attributes of each tea variety — such as White Tea, Oolong, Dark Tea, Pu-erh, and others — along with their nature and flavour profiles (e.g. cooling, warming, sweet, bitter) and their associated meridian pathways (e.g. Lung, Stomach, Kidney meridians), to design personalised tea prescriptions targeting specific health concerns. Each prescription specifies the appropriate tea, dosage, brewing method, and frequency of use, with an emphasis on safety, natural healing, and gentle, sustainable restoration.

Chinese Tea Therapy redefines the way we understand the medicinal value of tea. Professor Wei Ming has reorganised and given systematic structure to Tea Therapy — one of China's most treasured cultural gifts — compiling his work into the book Chinese Tea Therapy. This landmark work ensures that the academic knowledge of Tea Therapy can be preserved and carried forward, providing the intellectual foundation for an ideal approach to health in the modern era.

Over more than a decade in Hong Kong, Professor Wei Ming has focused his research on building the "tea as medicine" system, while establishing implementation and operations teams across Mainland China. His goal is to progressively translate academic research into market-ready products that can benefit the wider public.
